Flying Dutchman
This weekend marks the opening of the season for the UTAH OPERA. Flying Dutchman will be the Opera that starts us off...
October 13, 15, 17, 19 at 7:30 pm and October 21 at 2:00 pm at the Capitol Theatre
The Flying Dutchman (Der Fliegende Holländer)
By Richard Wagner (Ree-kard VAWG-ner)
Klauspeter Seibel, conductor
Harry Silverstein, director
Flying Dutchman –Nathan Berg
Senta – Lise Lindstrom
Erik – Roger Honeywell
Derived from maritime legend, Wagner brings us a captain doomed by the devil to roam the seas for eternity with his phantom ship and ghostly crew. Every seven years he sets foot on shore in search of a faithful wife whose constancy can release him from his curse. Will he find salvation in the arms of Senta, or is her love beyond his spectral grasp? Experience a work of dark, wild, and somber beauty that strives for notes of light and grace.
Sung in German with English supertitles
Another Description...
In this immortal opera we witness the story of the mysterious Dutchman, a sailor cursed to sail the seas forever and only permitted to step on land once every seven years. The only chance he has at breaking the curse is to find a woman who will remain faithful until death. From the orchestral sound of the stormy seas and blood red sails at the beginning of the opera to the beautiful theme of love and redemption at its conclusion, this Wagner masterpiece will keep you lost in its whirlpool or romance the entire evening.
Don't know about you but I am very much looking forward to this one!
